Top 10 Most Powerful People in 2010

According to Forbes.com, below are the top 10 on the list of most powerful people in the world as of the year 2010.  Do you ever wonder if any of them still play the lottery?


Number 10: Bill Gates - American business magnate, philanthropist and chairman of Microsoft.  During his career at Microsoft, he heald positions of CEO and chief software architect and remains the largest individual shareholder.  He and his wife were the second-most generous philanthropists in America, having given over $28 Billion to charity.

Number 9: Sonia Gandhi - President of the Indian National Congress which is one of the major political parties of India.  She is also one of the world's most influential people and participates actively in world economic summits.

Number 8: Beb Bernanke - Chairman of the Federal Reserve, the central bank of the United States of America.

Number 7: David Cameron - Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, First Lord of the Treasury, Minister for the Civil Service, and Leader of the Conservative Party.

Number 6: Angela Merkel - Chancellor of Germany. In 2007, Merkel was also President of the European Council and chaired the G8. She played a central role in the negotiation of the Treaty of Lisbon and the Berlin Declaration. In domestic policy, health care reform and problems concerning future energy development have thus far been major issues of her tenure.  Merkel is the first female Chancellor of Germany. In 2007 she became the second woman to chair the G8, after Margaret Thatcher.


Number 5: Pope Benedict XVI - Pope of the Roman Catholic Church.


Number 4: Vladimir Putin - Served as the 2nd President of the Russian Federation and is currently the Prime Minister of Russia.  He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing the rule of law in Russia.


Number 3: Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz al Saud - King of Saudi Arabia and Custodian of the 2 Holy Mosques. Considered to be one of the world's wealthiest royals and has been Commander of the Saudi Arabian National Guard.


Number 2:  Barack Obama - The first ever African American to hold office as the President of the United States.  On May 1, 2011, Obama announced that a small team of American military forces acting on his direct order, killed Osama bin Laden in Pakistan.  He is a native of Honolulu, Hawaii and graduated at Harvard Law School.  As president, Obama signed economic stimulus legislation in the form of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act in 2009, and Job Creation Act of 2010 as well as other domestic policies.


Number 1: Hu Jintao - Current Paramount Leader of the People's Republic of China and has held the titles of General Secretary of the Communist Party of China since 2002. Hu advocates for an approach termed "China's peaceful development", pursuing soft power in international relations.  Along with his colleague, Premier Wen Jiabao, Hu presided over nearly a decade of consistent economic growth and development that cemented China as a major world power with global influence in Africa, Latin America and other developing countries as well.
